What You Need to Know About insurance before reaching the car rental Counter
A large proportion of American consumers are confused about the purchase of insurance, if a rental car, new research by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). Indeed, many people in buying insurance, rental counters, without knowing whether their policies or credit card auto already benefits for its subsistence needs.
“If a car rentals, many consumers buy insurance and, ultimately, useless money. Meanwhile, other non underinsure their driver rental cars, endangering themselves,” said President Alabama and the NAIC Insurance Commissioner Walter Bell. “Given that the trip gets up around the Christmas period, the NAIC encourages consumers to consider whether their auto insurance provides adequate protection for cars.”
The NAIC’s national survey on 632 consumers, 19-30 September, 2007, gave these results:
Approximately 42 percent of respondents said they were either thoroughly confused or had only a rough idea of insurance protection, if a rental car.
34 percent of respondents said they bought the rental company insurance only to ensure they were covered.
24 percent of consumers are not sure whether their credit card with the assurance of protection, if a rental car.
“Drivers must educate themselves before the rental car counter,” said NAIC Executive Vice President and CEO Catherine J. Weatherford. “Check your auto insurance and check with your credit card issuer about auto insurance benefits. Protect yourself and save money in a few precautionary measures and require asking the right questions.”
