End of career violations destroy dreams
Charlotte - Don Williams has never had his face on the cover of Time Magazine or persons, it was still under weinerlich honors.
He met the wall in the Daytona International Speedway with violent consequences in the same week that Dale Earnhardt made his debut at Daytona.
Rescue workers found Williams’ Limp still behind the wheel as Earnhardt found two weeks ago. The time was rough, both Williams appeared to take a closer to death, just as Earnhardt.
But unlike Earnhardt, Williams will not die on impact. His injuries, feel much, much has been worse.
He remained in a coma for over 10 years, finally, mercifully, just a reminder in the field of sport-proud, but tragic history.
Charlie Daniels once wrote: “ If you break the neck to some convicted wreckage railing to forget you soon.”How prophetic. Each race seems to us further from the memory of those who died in a car race. And for those who do maimed, memory pales even faster.
The brutality of the sport spreads on a hospital bed. It destroys dreams, empty bank accounts, the challenges facing the emotions of the immediate family and changed the way a man makes his life when he is in the situation, ever.
For all practical purposes, Williams lives ended February 17, 1979, in preparation for the Daytona 500 - Race the same momentum that Earnhardt’s Rookie of the Year-campaign.
Williams was caught at home in Madison, Fla., are in a vegetative state for more than 10 years. In a good day, he looked blankly at the ceiling and rejects a rubber ball. His family faithfully observed, always wondering until the end, when he never understood what had happened there a cloud of obscurity.
