Birmingham, Ala. shakes off Old Economy dirty past
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The magnet has attracted Mercedes Michael Stewart.

Stewart’s family last July drew on the fourth Hoover, south of Birmingham. The territory has a reputation better than the average for schools, and his wife, a teacher, had no problem finding a job in one.
“One of the reasons why we Hoover is that the construction of schools, left and right,” he said. “They are building houses on houses, subdivisions on top of the subdivision.
